How to be more decisive
The People-Pleasing Dance: Why Indecision is Costing You (and How to Stop It)
We’ve all seen it—the painfully awkward supermarket standoff.
Two people, each trying to be polite, hesitating, sidestepping, then stepping back, both trying not to be rude… and in the process, slowing everything down.
It’s a small moment, but it speaks to a much bigger issue: our fear of being bold.
We’ve been taught that decisiveness can come across as pushy, that having a clear opinion might make us seem difficult. So, instead, we hesitate. We second-guess. We defer to others. And we waste valuable time—not just in the grocery store but in our businesses, relationships, and everyday choices.
here’s the truth: Clarity is kindness.
When you know what you want and express it clearly, confidently, and respectfully, you create more ease—for yourself and everyone around you.
But what happens when you don’t?
The Hidden Cost of Indecision
Have you ever experienced any of these situations?
You’re at a restaurant with a group, and no one wants to be the first to say what they want to eat. You spend 15 minutes in polite back-and-forth—"I’m fine with whatever," "You choose," "No, you!"—until someone finally makes a decision.
➡ What if someone just spoke up and made things easier for everyone?
You’re a business owner contemplating a new offer, but instead of deciding, you keep tweaking, waiting for the “right” time, doubting if people will buy.
➡ What if you trusted your idea, launched it, and let the clarity come from action?
You’re having a conversation with a friend and they ask for your opinion, but instead of saying what you truly think, you hold back, afraid of being too direct.
➡ What if you could be both honest and kind?
Every time we delay a decision, we create unnecessary tension—not just for ourselves, but for everyone involved. And over time, this hesitation leads to stagnation, missed opportunities and a whole lot of frustration.
So, how do we shift out of this pattern?
How to Build Decisiveness & Trust Your ChoiceS
1. Reframe Decisiveness as a Gift, Not a Burden
Many of us hesitate because we don’t want to seem too opinionated or demanding. But imagine being on the other side—wouldn’t you rather work with, collaborate with, or be around someone who knows what they want?
Being clear doesn’t make you difficult. It makes you trustworthy.
Have you ever had a client who couldn’t decide what they wanted, constantly changed their mind, or asked for endless revisions?
It’s exhausting. When you show up with clarity and boundaries, you create a smoother experience for everyone.
Instead of: "I don’t want to be too much…”
Try: “My clarity makes everything flow smoother.”
2. Trust That You Can Handle the Outcome
One of the biggest reasons we stay stuck in indecision is fear of making the “wrong” choice.
But what if there is no wrong choice—only an opportunity to learn and adjust?
💡 Example: A client of mine spent months debating whether to start a podcast, fearing it wouldn’t be “perfect.” Finally, she launched it—imperfectly—and within weeks, she had unexpected collaborations, client inquiries, and deepened audience trust. The clarity she was waiting for only came after she took action.
👉 Next time you feel stuck, ask yourself:
What’s the worst that could happen?
If I make a mistake, how could I course-correct?
Most of the time, the fear of deciding is far worse than the decision itself.
3. Make Small, Fast Decisions Daily
If you struggle with indecision, start strengthening your clarity muscle with low-stakes choices:
✨ Pick a meal without overthinking , just pick the first thing that sounds good.
✨ Choose your next task without analysing all the options.
✨ Say “yes” or “no” without explaining yourself.
One of my clients was struggling to decide on her brand colours. She kept polling friends, doubting her choices, and delaying her launch. I challenged her to pick a palette in 5 minutes and commit for 90 days. She did it—and now, that colour scheme feels like home for her brand (as remains in place 18months down the track ;)
The more you practice, the easier it gets, I promise.
4. Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Body
Overthinking is the enemy of clarity. Sometimes, the best way to get clear isn’t to analyze more—it’s to tune into your body’s wisdom.
Try this: Next time you're unsure, take a deep breath and check in with yourself. Does this decision feel expansive and exciting or heavy and constricting? Your body knows before your mind does.

What If You Stopped Apologising for Knowing What You Want?
Confidence isn’t about being aggressive—it’s about being clear. And when you own your clarity, you give others permission to do the same.
So, what’s one decision you’ve been putting off? It may just be the one decision between where you re now and where your heart is calling you to be.
With love,
